Gregg Allman, an American musician, singer, and songwriter, gained fame as the founder, keyboardist, and vocalist of the Allman Brothers Band. A pioneer of Southern rock music, Allman was known for his soulful voice and gritty lyrics, with popular songs such as “Midnight Rider,” “Melissa,” and “Whipping Post.” He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and was listed among Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” His notable albums include “At Fillmore East,” “Eat a Peach,” and “Brothers and Sisters.” Allman passed away in 2017 at 69 due to liver cancer complications. An interesting fact about him is that he was briefly married to Cher for nine days, shortly after her divorce from Sonny Bono.
