Erik Weisz, better known as Harry Houdini, was a famous American magician, illusionist, and escape artist. He captivated audiences with his daring escapes, often involving chains, handcuffs, and straightjackets, as well as his lock-picking skills and ability to escape seemingly impossible situations. Houdini was also an aviation pioneer, filmmaker, and author of several books on magic and spiritualism. Among his notable accomplishments were debunking fraudulent spiritualists and entertaining troops during World War I. Some of his works include “The Unmasking of Robert-Houdin,” “The Man from Beyond,” and “Haldane of the Secret Service.” In 1910, Houdini’s passion for aviation led him to become one of the first individuals to attempt a controlled powered flight in Australia. Additionally, he performed aerial stunts and exhibitions and created a unique jumpsuit for high-altitude flights. An interesting fact about Houdini is that he chose his stage name after reading the autobiography of French magician Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin, which inspired him to become a professional magician.
