Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez, a retired Puerto Rican professional baseball player, is considered one of the greatest catchers of all time. He played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) and was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame in 2017. Rodríguez holds numerous records, such as the most games played as a catcher and the most putouts and assists by a catcher. He was renowned for his versatile skills in hitting, throwing, and catching the ball. Additionally, Rodríguez runs a foundation that supports underprivileged children and has participated in charity work for various organizations.
In his first year of eligibility, Rodríguez was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown in 2017, receiving 76% of the votes cast. After retiring from baseball, he served as a Shadow Representative from Puerto Rico.
Rodríguez’s notable achievements include 14 All-Star selections, 13 Gold Glove Awards, a World Series championship with the Florida Marlins in 2003, being named the NLCS MVP, and receiving the Silver Slugger Award multiple times.
Even in retirement, Rodríguez remains popular and continues to be recognized for his contributions to the sport. Notably, he is the only major league catcher with more putouts than any other player.
