Jane Elliot is an American educator, diversity trainer, and actress who gained national attention for her “Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes” exercise. She conducted this activity with her third-grade class in 1968, the day after Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, to teach them about the effects of racism. Elliot is also recognized for her portrayal of Tracy Quartermaine on the ABC daytime soap opera General Hospital. Her other notable works include the documentary “A Class Divided,” the children’s book “The Stolen Eye,” and her advocacy for LGBT rights and against ageism. She has been honored with awards such as the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education and the American Psychological Association’s Award for Distinguished Contribution to Psychology in the Public Interest.
