Jane Fonda is a multi-talented American actress, fitness guru, and activist. She has won two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards and seven Golden Globe Awards, and is best known for her roles in movies such as Klute, Coming Home, and On Golden Pond. She has also published several books on fitness, gone on multiple speaking tours and rallies, and was a vocal anti-war activist during the Vietnam War era. Some of her other notable works include The China Syndrome, Nine to Five, and Grace and Frankie.
Jane Fonda was born with the name Lady Jayne Seymour Fonda, named after a character in her father’s play. Early in her career, she dropped “Lady” from her name as she felt it sounded pretentious. She then changed the spelling of her middle name from “Seymour” to “Simone” and kept the name Jane Fonda as her professional name.
One less known fact about Jane Fonda is that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and underwent a procedure to have a tumor removed. She has been an advocate for early detection and treatment of breast cancer ever since, encouraging women to get mammograms and supporting organizations like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
