Joe Sawyer was an American film character actor, best known for his tough guy roles in classic Hollywood movies. He appeared in more than 200 film and TV productions throughout his career. Some of his most famous works include the films “They Died with Their Boots On” and “The Killing” and the TV series “The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin”. He also achieved recognition for his supporting role in the film “The High and the Mighty” and for his portrayal of Sergeant Biff O’Hara in the TV series “Tales of the Texas Rangers”.
Joe Sawyer was born Joseph Sauers in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He later adopted the stage name Joe Sawyer during his acting career.
One lesser-known fact about Joe Sawyer is that he was a trained engineer before pursuing a career in acting. He studied engineering at the University of Toronto before dropping out to join a stock theater company.
