John Carlos, a renowned American track and field athlete, is best known for his bold Black Power salute at the 1968 Olympics, which brought attention to the fight against racism and inequality. As a member of the Olympic Project for Human Rights, he played a significant role in advocating for social justice. Carlos later established the John Carlos Foundation and was honored with an induction into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame. Besides his athletic accomplishments, he had a strong interest in the arts, attending San Jose State University on an art scholarship.
