John Lee Gray Jr., a retired American world-class athlete, is renowned for his prowess in the 800-meter race and holds the world best record for the 600-meter event. He gained recognition for setting the US record of 1:42.60 in 1985, ranking him as the nineteenth fastest performer of all time. As a respected track coach, Gray guided Khadevis Robinson to five national championships. He earned a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games and participated in four Olympic events from 1984 to 1996, including being a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic track team.
