Lazar Naumovich Berman (February 26, 1930 รขยย February 6, 2005) was a distinguished Soviet Russian classical pianist celebrated for his exceptional technical prowess and dynamic performances. He gained particular acclaim for his interpretations of works by Franz Liszt and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Berman collaborated with esteemed conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, and achieved a best-selling recording of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. He also participated in international competitions and devoted himself to music education. Despite suffering a severe hand injury in the 1960s, Berman triumphed over this setback and returned to the stage with a reinvigorated passion for the piano.
