Lee Byung-chul, a South Korean entrepreneur, founded Samsung Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate. He began his venture in 1938 with a modest trading company in Taegu, Korea, specializing in dried fish and noodles, and eventually transformed it into a global powerhouse. Among his most notable accomplishments are the founding of Samsung Electronics, the construction of South Korea’s first semiconductor plant, the establishment of Samsung Heavy Industries, Samsung Life Insurance, and the Samsung Foundation of Culture. A patron of the arts, Lee Byung-chul also founded the Samsung Publishing Company, which grew to become one of South Korea’s leading publishing houses. His extensive collection of Korean art is regarded as one of the nation’s largest private collections.
