Lewis Gilbert was a renowned British film director, producer, and screenwriter who rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s. He was known for his work on a series of successful films, often taking on multiple roles as writer and producer. Gilbert is best remembered for directing three James Bond films: “You Only Live Twice”, “The Spy Who Loved Me”, and “Moonraker”. His other notable films include “Alfie”, “Educating Rita”, “Shirley Valentine”, and “Sink the Bismarck!”. In recognition of his contributions to the film industry, he was awarded the CBE. Gilbert’s career began as a child actor in the 1920s before he transitioned to working behind the scenes. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 97.
