Lisa Howard was a trailblazing American journalist, news anchor, and actress known for her work as a reporter for CBS News and ABC News in the 1960s. She covered significant events such as the Cuban Revolution and the Vietnam War. Howard also had a successful career in the entertainment industry, appearing in films like “The Days of Wine and Roses,” “Cape Fear,” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” as well as television shows like “The Fugitive,” “Madam Secretary,” “Earth: Final Conflict,” “Tropical Heat,” and “Perry Mason.” She starred in the 1987 movie “Rolling Vengeance” and played April Ramirez on “Days of Our Lives” from 1988 to 1991.
Howard is also remembered for her efforts to initiate contact between the United States and Cuba during the Cold War. In 1960, she wrote a letter to Fidel Castro, expressing her desire to arrange a meeting between him and an American journalist. This led to a meeting between Howard and Castro in 1963, where they discussed the possibility of improving relations between the two countries. Unfortunately, Howard died in a plane crash shortly after the meeting, leaving her efforts towards improving US-Cuban relations unfulfilled.
An interesting aspect of Howard’s career was her involvement in the Lincoln Project’s video “Covita,” a parody of Evita that criticized Donald Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, for which she provided the vocals.
