Lol Coxhill (19 September 1932 รขยย 10 July 2012) was a renowned English saxophonist recognized for his distinctive improvisational technique and unconventional spirit. Primarily playing the soprano and sopranino saxophones, he was a significant figure in the free improvisation scene. Throughout his career, Coxhill collaborated with various musicians, including Kevin Ayers, Robert Wyatt, and the Damned, and produced notable albums such as “Ear of Beholder” and “The Story So Far.” He also made appearances in film and television and worked with musicians like Mike Oldfield and Steve Miller. A talented cartoonist, Coxhill created album covers and promotional materials using his drawings. His comic strip, “The Bald Soprano,” was published in the British magazine “International Times” during the 1970s.
