Lou Albano, also known as Captain Lou Albano, was an Italian-American professional wrestler, manager, and actor. He was active in wrestling from 1953 to 1969 before becoming a manager until 1995. Albano is best known for managing numerous wrestling legends, including Andre The Giant, Pat Patterson, and The British Bulldogs. He also formed an unlikely friendship with pop star Cyndi Lauper, which contributed to the success of WrestleMania.
Albano passed away on October 14, 2009, at the age of 76. He died of a heart attack at his home in Staten Island, New York. Albano’s death was a great loss to the wrestling world, and he is still remembered as one of the most iconic and beloved wrestlers of all time.
In addition to his wrestling career, Albano also appeared in several films and television shows. He is best known for his role as Captain Lou Albano in the popular children’s television series “Captain Lou Albano’s WWF Superstars of Wrestling,” which aired from 1984 to 1994.
