He gained international fame for his eccentric and comedic roles in films, many of which were directed by Jean Girault. Among his most famous works are “La Grande Vadrouille,” “Le Corniaud,” “Les Aventures de Rabbi Jacob,” “L’Aile ou la Cuisse,” the “Le Gendarme” series, and “La Folie des Grandeurs.” Despite his success and being considered one of the most famous French actors of all time, De Funes was not well-known in the English-speaking world.
