Mario Andretti, an Italian-born American former racing driver, is regarded as one of the greatest racers of all time. He is renowned for his victories in the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, and Formula One World Championship. Throughout his illustrious career, Andretti claimed 111 wins across various competitions, such as Formula One, IndyCar, NASCAR, and sports cars. He received the Driver of the Year award in 1967, 1978, and 1984 and was inducted into both the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.
Andretti’s impressive achievements include setting a then-record speed of 156.867 miles per hour (252.11 km/hr) when he won the Indianapolis 500 race in 1969. In 1978, he became the second American driver to win the Formula One world driving championship. He is ranked as the 25th most popular racing driver and the most popular Croatian Racing Driver.
Some of his other notable accomplishments include winning the Daytona 500 in 1967, finishing as runner-up in the Indy Car national championship, and securing victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race three times.
