Mario Puzo, an Italian-American author, was renowned for his iconic novels such as “The Godfather” and “The Sicilian.” Born in 1920, he was raised in a low-income family in Hell’s Kitchen, which heavily influenced his writing. Puzo achieved immense success in 1969 with the publication of “The Godfather,” selling over 21 million copies worldwide and inspiring a highly successful film trilogy. Other notable works by Puzo include “Fools Die” and “The Last Don.” In addition to his literary accomplishments, Puzo also wrote screenplays for popular films like “Earthquake” and “Superman.” He received an Academy Award for his screenplay for the first Godfather film and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1978.
