Mark Foley, an American ex-politician, was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2006, representing Florida as a Republican. His political career came to an abrupt end in September 2006 when he resigned due to a scandal involving sexually explicit messages sent to underage male pages.
Throughout his time in office, Foley was known for his work on the Committee on Ways and Means, his support for the Defense of Marriage Act, and his role as co-chairman of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus. He played a significant part in developing the Amber Alert system and sponsored the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act.
Despite the scandal that ended his career, Foley had been re-elected multiple times with considerable margins and was considered a moderate Republican. He held a position on the influential House Ways and Means Committee.
