Mary Jo Buttafuoco, an American author and motivational speaker, is best known for surviving a murder attempt by her husband’s teenage lover, Amy Fisher, in 1992. She penned a memoir in 1999 called “Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know.” Buttafuoco has been a guest on talk shows such as “Oprah” and “Larry King Live,” co-hosted the talk show “Starting Over,” and made cameo appearances in the sitcom “Grace Under Fire.” In recent years, she has continued her work as a motivational speaker and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor.
