Matt Gallagher, an acclaimed American author and veteran, is recognized for his fiction and nonfiction works. Having served in the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Gallagher’s most well-known book is “Youngblood,” a war novel centered around a lieutenant in Iraq. He has contributed to The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Paris Review and received the 2017 Arts and Letters Award in Literature. Granta Magazine named him one of the Best New Voices of the American Publishing Industry. His other notable works include “Kaboom: Embracing the Suck in a Savage Little War,” “Empire City,” and “Ashley’s War.” Gallagher also co-edited “Fire and Forget: Short Stories from the Long War,” a collection of short stories by Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, and serves on the advisory board of Words After War, a literary nonprofit organization assisting veterans and their families in sharing their stories.
