Maximilian Adelbert Baer, commonly known as Max Baer, was an American professional boxer who held the title of world heavyweight champion between June 14, 1934, and June 13, 1935. Renowned for his powerful right-hand punches, Baer gained prominence in the 1930s. He participated in two significant bouts, including a 1933 victory against Max Schmeling and a 1935 defeat to James J. Braddock, both of which were named Fight of the Year by The Ring magazine. In addition to his boxing career, Baer briefly ventured into Hollywood, starring in films such as “The Prizefighter and the Lady” and “The Life of Jimmy Dolan.” Despite his foray into the entertainment world, Baer ultimately refocused on boxing. He was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame and received Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year award in 1934.
