Melvin Franklin, originally named David Melvin English, was an American bass singer and a founding member of the renowned Motown vocal group, The Temptations. He was recognized for his deep, rich voice and significant contributions to the Motown sound. Some of Franklin’s most notable works include “My Girl,” “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),” and “Get Ready.” In 1989, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, Franklin continued to perform with The Temptations until shortly before his passing in 1995.
