Sir Michael Craig-Martin CBE RA, an Irish-born contemporary conceptual artist and painter, is renowned for mentoring the Young British Artists and creating the conceptual piece “An Oak Tree.” With a career spanning over four decades, his work has been showcased in galleries and exhibitions worldwide. Some other notable pieces include “Line-up,” “Alphabet Painting,” and “Lightbulb (magenta).” He has also written a memoir and advice book for aspiring artists titled “On Being An Artist.” Currently, Craig-Martin serves as the Emeritus Professor of Fine Art at Goldsmiths College in London. An interesting aspect of his work is the conceptual artwork “An Oak Tree,” which features a glass of water on a shelf accompanied by a text explaining the artist’s transformation of the object into an oak tree.
