Anthony Carter, widely known as Mighty Gabby or simply Gabby, is a renowned Barbadian calypsonian and folk singer who gained fame with his politically charged and socially conscious songs, including “Jack,” “Boots,” and “Emmerton.” As a multiple-time winner of the Calypso Monarch competition, Gabby has made significant contributions to culture, earning him the Barbados Service Star and the title of UNESCO Artist for Peace. Besides his musical career, Gabby is an activist who supports various causes, such as anti-apartheid and the fight against colonialism. In recognition of his efforts, the Barbados government awarded him the Gold Crown of Merit in 2018. As a Cultural Ambassador for Barbados, Gabby continues to represent the island’s rich culture and heritage.
