Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer and South Korean politician, served as the country’s 19th president from 2017 to 2022. Renowned for his diplomatic approach and commitment to enhancing inter-Korean relations, Moon focused on economic and social reforms, environmental protection, and reducing political corruption during his tenure. He was instrumental in organizing the U.S.-North Korea summit and was actively involved in progressive politics and social justice initiatives. Previously, he served as chief of staff to the late President Roh Moo-hyun.
A literature enthusiast, Moon has published a best-selling poetry collection in South Korea titled “Destiny.” According to YouGov polling, he ranks as the 14th most popular foreign politician and the 385th most popular public figure. With an average approval rating of 52% in the Gallup Korea poll, Moon concluded his presidency as the most popular president in South Korea’s democratic history.
