Nolan Ryan, an esteemed Hall of Fame pitcher, is often considered one of the most exceptional baseball players in history. Throughout his 27-year Major League Baseball career, he set records with 5,714 strikeouts and seven no-hitters. In 1983, Ryan became the first pitcher to surpass Walter Johnson’s career strikeout record. He retired in 1993 at 46 years old, holding the record for the most strikeouts. On May 15, 1973, he achieved his first no-hitter, which is one of his most remarkable accomplishments.
Besides his baseball career, Ryan had other significant achievements, such as performing at Shea Stadium and singing on the Ed Sullivan Show, following the Beatles’ footsteps. Although he never won a Cy Young Award, Ryan started more games than anyone except Cy Young himself and accumulated 324 wins. His life and career are documented in a biography by Rob Goldman called “Nolan Ryan: The Making of a Pitcher.”
