Olive Carey was a renowned American actress who starred in numerous classic western films and TV shows. With nearly 100 appearances to her name, she is best known for her role as Mrs. Jorgensen in “The Searchers” (1956). Other significant works include “One-Eyed Jacks” (1961), “The Big Country” (1958), and “Two Rode Together” (1961). In addition to her acting career, Carey was a writer and penned the book “The Hollywood Posse: The Story of a Gallant Band of Horsemen Who Made Movie History” (1975). In 1983, she was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Olive Carey passed away at 92 years old in Carpinteria, California.
An interesting aspect of Olive Carey’s life is that she made her motion picture debut in Tess of the Storm Country at just 18 years old, and later retired from films after A Knight of the Range. She was also married to fellow actor Harry Carey.
