Some of his other notable works include “Huset på Christianshavn”, “Mig og min lillebror og storsmuglerne”, “Hjerter i flamme”, and “Julefrokosten”. Sprogøe received numerous awards for his contributions to Danish cinema, including the prestigious Robert Award.
Born in Odense in 1919, Sprogøe grew up in the same city with his parents, Arthur and Inger Sprogøe. In 1945, he married Eva Rasmussen, and they had three children, including actor Henning Sprogøe. That same year, Sprogøe made his stage debut at Folketeatret in Copenhagen.
An interesting fact about Sprogøe is that he had arachnophobia, a fear of spiders. This phobia was challenged during a scene in an Olsen Gang film where he had to hold a tarantula on his hand, which reportedly took him several takes to complete due to his fear.
