Paul Mooney, born as Paul Gladney, was a renowned American comedian, writer, and actor who made significant contributions to comedy and social commentary. Throughout his career, he collaborated with prominent comedians like Redd Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Dave Chappelle. Mooney was also a writer for Richard Pryor and popular television shows such as Sanford and Son, Good Times, In Living Color, and Chappelle’s Show, where he appeared in sketches. In addition to his writing, he acted in films like The Buddy Holly Story and Bamboozled. Often referred to as the godfather of Black comedy, Mooney was known for his fearless exploration of race and social issues. Unfortunately, he passed away on May 19, 2021, at the age of 79.
