Percy Tyrone Sledge (November 25, 1940 รขยย April 14, 2015) was an American R&B, soul, and gospel singer, renowned for his soulful voice and emotional performances. He gained fame with his iconic song “When a Man Loves a Woman,” which reached the top of both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B singles charts in 1966. This success earned him the nickname “The King of Slow Soul.” Sledge also had other hit songs, including “Warm and Tender Love,” “Take Time to Know Her,” and “It Tears Me Up.” In 2005, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sadly, Sledge passed away at the age of 74 due to liver cancer on April 14, 2015.
