He was best known for hosting his own variety show, The Pinky Lee Show, which aired on NBC and showcased vaudevillians and burlesque comics. Lee’s energetic and zany persona inspired other comedians, such as Paul Reubens, also known as Pee-wee Herman. In addition to his variety show, Lee starred in the sitcom Those Two alongside Vivian Blaine and made appearances in movies like “Before I Hang” and “Stage Door Canteen.” He also performed in the Broadway production of “Bloomer Girl” and hosted a children’s show sponsored by Tootsie Roll. Although his popularity waned later in his career, Pinky Lee remains a cherished figure in the history of children’s television and the entertainment industry.
