Robert Overmyer
Robert Overmyer was an American test pilot, naval aviator, aeronautical engineer, physicist, United States Marine Corps officer, and USAF/NASA astronaut. He was selected as part of NASA Astronaut Group 7 and worked on the Skylab Program and Apollo 17 mission.

Robert Overmyer, an American astronaut, played a significant role in NASA’s space shuttle program. He gained prominence as the pilot for the STS-5 mission, which marked the first operational flight of the space shuttle program. Overmyer also participated in other missions, such as STS-51B and STS-51L. As a co-inventor of the “G-Suit,” he contributed to helping pilots endure the physical demands of flying high-performance aircraft. In addition to his work in the space shuttle program, Overmyer served as an engineer for the Skylab Program and supported the Apollo 17 mission as a crew member.
