Robert Reed, an American actor born as John Robert Rietz Jr., gained fame for his portrayal of Mike Brady in the well-loved sitcom “The Brady Bunch” (1969-1979). Despite his success in this role, Reed was reportedly dissatisfied with the show and never took pride in it. In addition to “The Brady Bunch,” Reed appeared in other popular shows and films such as “Rich Man, Poor Man,” “Roots,” “Nurse,” and “The Defenders.” His performance in “Rich Man, Poor Man” earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Reed, who changed his name from John Robert Rietz Jr., was also a member of Mensa, a high IQ society, boasting an impressive IQ score of 149.
