Ross Perot, an American businessman, philanthropist, and politician, gained prominence as a maverick and populist during his independent presidential campaigns in 1992 and 1996. As the founder of Electronic Data Systems (EDS), a computer services company, he was also known for his philanthropic work through the Perot Foundation. Having served in the United States Navy, he received the Medal for Distinguished Public Service. Additionally, Perot was an Eagle Scout and held the position of national president for the Boy Scouts of America. He passed away on July 9, 2019, at 89 years old.
Notably, Perot was one of the most successful third-party presidential candidates, securing 19% of the popular vote as an independent in 1992. He was also involved in issues concerning POWs in the Vietnam War and masterminded a daring rescue of two of his employees who were held hostage in Iran in 1979.
