Sarah Vaughan, often referred to as “Sassy” or “The Divine One,” was a renowned American jazz singer who released over 50 albums throughout her nearly five-decade-long career. Among her most celebrated works is the live album “Live in Japan,” recorded with Mainstream Records, which highlights her exceptional vocal abilities and captivating performances of songs such as “Misty,” “The Nearness of You,” and “Like Someone in Love.” Vaughan received two Grammy Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, and was nominated for nine Grammy Awards in total. In 1989, she was also honored with an NEA Jazz Masters Award. Known for her rich voice, extensive vocal range, and improvisational skills, Vaughan is regarded as one of the greatest female jazz singers in history, alongside legends like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.
