Tariq Trotter, also known as Black Thought, is a multi-talented American rapper, singer, and actor who is best known as the lead MC of the Philadelphia-based hip hop group The Roots, which he co-founded with drummer Questlove. Widely lauded for his live performance skills, Trotter is considered one of the most skilled, incisive, and prolific rappers of his time. His accomplishments extend beyond The Roots, as he has collaborated with artists like Erykah Badu on the Grammy Award-winning song “You Got Me” and has won three GRAMMY Awards and three NAACP Image Awards. Trotter recently released a memoir titled “The Upcycled Self” and is also known for his impressive freestyle abilities.
