Tarja Turunen, born on August 17, 1977, is a Finnish heavy metal singer and songwriter who rose to fame as the former lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band Nightwish. With a three-octave vocal range, Turunen studied singing at the Sibelius Academy and Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. After leaving Nightwish in 2005, she pursued a successful solo career, releasing numerous albums that demonstrate her versatility in both classical music and rock. Turunen has collaborated with various musicians, made guest appearances on albums by Within Temptation and Scorpions, and performed in musical theater productions. She has also released a live DVD/CD documentary of her touring, contributed to video game soundtracks, and appeared as a boss character in the game “Nuclear Blast All-Stars: Into the Light.” Turunen remains a prominent figure in the metal scene, with a dedicated fan base worldwide.
