Teemu Selanne, nicknamed “The Finnish Flash,” is a former professional ice hockey right winger from Finland. He played 21 seasons in the NHL for the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and Colorado Avalanche.
Selanne made his NHL debut in 1992 and quickly became one of the league’s most prolific scorers. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie in 1993 and went on to score 50 or more goals in three consecutive seasons.
In 1996, Selanne was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, where he spent the majority of his NHL career. He became a fan favorite in Anaheim and helped lead the team to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2007.
Selanne retired from the NHL in 2014 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017. He is the all-time leading scorer among Finnish-born NHL players and the only player in NHL history to score 50 or more goals in three consecutive seasons.
Off the ice, Selanne is actively involved in charity work and has established the Teemu Selänne Foundation to support children’s charities in Finland and the United States.
