St. Teresa of Ávila, also referred to as Saint Teresa of Jesus, was a prominent Spanish nun, mystic, and author who lived from March 28, 1515, to October 4, 1582. She is highly regarded as one of the most influential mystics and spiritual women within the Roman Catholic Church. St. Teresa’s most renowned works are “The Interior Castle” and “The Way of Perfection,” both considered spiritual classics. In 1622, she was canonized and later became the first female to be named a Doctor of the Catholic Church. Among her other significant works are “The Book of the Foundations,” “The Letters of Saint Teresa of Avila,” and “The Life of Saint Teresa of Avila.” St. Teresa of Ávila played a crucial role in the Counter-Reformation movement.
