Tonea Stewart, originally from Greenwood, Mississippi, is a distinguished American actress, author, and professor. She rose to fame for her portrayal of Aunt Etta Kibby in the TV series In the Heat of the Night. With a vast career spanning television, film, and stage productions, Stewart has earned numerous awards for her acting and has written three books. She currently serves as a professor of theatre arts and the Dean of the College of Visual & Performing Arts at Alabama State University. Some of her notable works include Mississippi Burning, A Time to Kill, and The Rosa Parks Story. Stewart is also an active advocate for the arts and arts education, holding the position of National Chair of the National Black Theatre Festival and participating in various arts organizations.
