Vardan Antonyan’s name comes from his paternal grandfather, Vardan, who was killed in the Armenian Genocide. He was born and raised in Armenia and studied journalism before pursuing a career in filmmaking. Antonyan began his career working on various TV productions and later focused on directing his own films. His most recent film, “The Last Inhabitant,” tells the story of an Armenian man who refuses to leave his home in Artsakh after the area is scheduled for demolition.

Vardan Antonyan is a firm believer in the power of film to inspire and educate. He has been involved in a number of projects aimed at promoting Armenian cinema both domestically and abroad. In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Antonyan is also a mentor to young filmmakers in Armenia and has been involved in a number of educational initiatives designed to promote film education in the country. One such initiative, the “Golden Apricot Fund for Cinema Development,” provides young filmmakers with the resources they need to bring their projects to life.
