Vivien Leigh was best remembered for her performances in ‘Gone with the Wind’ )1939), ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ (1951), and in the Broadway version of ‘Tovarich’. She played the classic Shakespearean roles of Ophelia, Cleopatra, Juliet, and Lady Macbeth in several productions.
The actress took her former husband’s first name ‘Leigh’ as her stage surname when she started out her professional acting career. Her father gave her the nickname Vivling which was a combination of her first name and the word darling.
She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and suffered from recurrent bouts of chronic tuberculosis.
