William Walker was an American adventurer and mercenary who gained notoriety for his conquest of Nicaragua and efforts to control Mexico and Honduras. A supporter of the Confederacy during the American Civil War, he advocated for the annexation of Central American nations. Despite his involvement in a failed invasion of Cuba and a filibustering expedition to Baja California, which led to his imprisonment, Walker managed to seize control of Nicaragua and parts of Mexico with his private army, eventually becoming the president of Nicaragua. However, his ambitions were cut short when he was executed by the Honduran government in 1860.
