Yohannes IV, also known as Emperor Yohannes IV, ruled Tigray from 1867 to 1871 before becoming the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1871 until his death in 1889. He was instrumental in strengthening Ethiopia’s power and creating a unified government. Yohannes IV was renowned for his military prowess and religious dedication. He is best known for his efforts to diminish the influence of regional nobles and enforce conversion to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Additionally, he contributed to urban development projects, such as constructing a new palace in Dabra Tabor, and played a crucial role in resisting the Egyptian occupation in 1875. As the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1872 to 1889, Yohannes IV was a key figure in the modernization of the country.
